Hibbett Sports in Harlingen is expected to open back up this morning.

On Thursday, contractors rebuilt the damaged door frame and employees cleaned up tiny little shards of glass that were spread across the entrance of the store.

Harlingen police say that around 1:45 Thursday morning a vehicle crashed through the glass and security bars, signaling the alarm system.

At this point, police are still trying to determine if anything from the sporting goods store was actually stolen, or if the accident was a result of careless driving.

Authorities say that they arrived on the scene to find the glass shattered, door frame bent, and a hole in the building, but no vehicle.

Finding that vehicle wouldn't take long, officers located it just about half a mile away.

"They did follow a trail of debris and merchandise, clothing I assume, they followed the items and did locate the stolen vehicle on about the 13-hundred block of S. Palm Dr." said Harlingen Police Sgt. John Parrish.

The car was there, the suspects had fled. Right now authorities are trying to track down surveillance video from surrounding businesses to see if they can identify who was behind the wheel.

As the investigation is fresh, still many unanswered questions remain. However, processing the stolen vehicle did turn up a few potential clues...

There is some evidence in the car that we’re looking into, that was left in the car.” said the detective.

Now if you have any information as to who may have been involved in this crime, you're asked to contact Harlingen police or Crime Stoppers at 956-425-TIPS. .
