It's been around over forty years, and sooner or later officials say it won't meet the needs of the passengers flying in and out of the airport, we're talking about it's terminal. NewsCenter 23 Na'tassia Finley has more on the future plans of the Brownsville/South Padre Island airport.

A portion of $10.5 million will be put into the ground, the tarmacs to be specific, here at the Brownsville/South Padre Island airport. The millions won't come from city tax payers necessarily, but rather frequent fliers, "The traveler pays for it every time they buy an airline ticket, these are FAA monies coming back to our community creating jobs and improving your hometown airport."

Perhaps the biggest improvement will be the terminal itself, another portion of the $10 million will go towards phase two of the airport study. Officials are trying to determine whether a completely new terminal is needed, or if expansion and renovation will meet the needs of the airports growing needs.

Airport officials will be seeing input from the flying community, the airlines and the FAA.
