The texting ban in Brownsville is in full effect as the city has reported that there is no grace period for drivers caught texting while operating their vehicles.

City commissioners unanimously passed the no texting ordinance at Tuesday's meeting and a driver breaking the law could receive a ticket of up to $500 dollars.

Next thing to be banned should just be stupid/ignorant drivers, but then I guess the City commissioners will have to find another way to work.

I understand to many people are texting while driving and it puts everyone in danger. Many laws have been passed but seem not to be enforced. For example, the other day while driving and saw a mother with a child in the front seat not secured. Worst part about it, she turned in front of a police officer. Guess that law wasn't important enough to be enforced. As a mother I feel that those laws should be enforced and not have officers turned the other way.
