BROWNSVILLE, TEXAS (NEWS CENTER 23) — Less time doing paperwork, will now mean more time on the streets for Brownsville Police Officers.
"It allows us to use our officers for other calls."
New police department technology will allow citizens to file police reports online.
"This will allow people to make reports at their convenience at any time."
“I’m on the website now and it looks like it is really easy to navigate through, but the Brownsville Police Department knows that not everyone has a computer at home.
"We are also going to be setting up a computer here in the police lobby for anybody that wants to stop by, anybody who wishes to stop by and fill out the report here in the lobby if or in case you don't have internet at home."
This software required a $20,000 investment along with an annual maintenance fee. But the Brownsville Police Department thinks it will ultimately save money, and greatly enhance public service. For now the system is available only in English, but work is underway to install a Spanish version as well. Reporting from Brownsville, Abigail Camilo, KVEO Newscenter 23.
