Brownsville P.D. Offering Police Citizens Academy

The annual Brownsville Police Citizens Academy is underway at the Southmost Community Network Center.

The department offers a ten week course free to anyone 18 years of age and older and who don't have a criminal history. Students will meet every Thursday to learn about police procedures, prosecution, self-defense and the use of firearms. Community Officer Carlos Camacho said the academy is one way of interacting with the community and teaching them about police procedures, "We are going to have different sessions from patrol procedures to district attorney presenters to traffic stops to crime scene investigations."
