Brownsville ISD board member Dr. Enrique Escobedo Jr. found dead
BROWNSVILLE, TX (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — The President of the Brownsville ISD school board has died.
According to police, relatives found Dr. Enrique Escobedo, Jr., dead shortly before 2 p.m. at a home located on Larkspur in Brownsville.
Preliminary reports indicate he was shot with a small caliber weapon, apparently self-inflicted.
Authorities say there is no sign of foul play. An autopsy has been ordered and the investigation continues.
The Brownsville ISD released a statement on the death of Dr. Escobedo Jr.:
"Brownsville ISD is deeply saddened to learn about the sudden passing of Dr. Enrique Escobedo, Jr. He has been a dynamic and inspired leader on our school board for over 10 years. Most recently, he served as our Board President. We offer our deepest condolences and unwavering support to his family in this difficult time. We will honor Dr. Escobedo’s memory by continuing our commitment to provide academic excellence for our community’s children."
