Some people came for the festivities.

"We are just here to watch the floats and get into the Fourth of July spirit," says thirteen-year-old Issac Relander.

For others the celebration was their first.

"First time we have ever made it out here in twelve year," says local citizen Mindy Relander.

Attendees may have had different reasons for participating in the eleventh annual Fourth of July Parade in downtown Brownsville but everyone present had pride for their country.

"I wanted to bring my family out here to celebrate the fourth of July our Independence Day from the British. Just celebrate the USA in general," said another attendee.

The parade, sponsored by the Brownsville Herald, began early Monday morning but that didn't stop people from showing up. Especially those who came in support of the troops.

"They never received the thanks that they were supposed to," said one parade attendee. "I think it is very important for us to show them that we were really grateful that they went."

Despite the large group of people that came to pay their respect some people thought our country's birthday deserved a bigger celebration.

"It was kind of short," said Mrs. Relander. "Usually the parades are pretty long and there are usually a lot more people."
