Brownsville Commissioners to Take ALS Ice Bucket Challenge
BROWNSVILLE, TX (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — Several Brownsville city commissioners will be taking the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge™ at 8:45 p.m. tonight at Washington Park (south side) during the CycloBia Brownsville event.
“Many of us in Brownsville are aware that 14-year-old Joseph Garza is battling ALS,” said Jessica Tetreau-Kalifa, Brownsville city commissioner.
“We are taking the challenge for him and everyone else who battling this disease.”
Garza is believed to be the only child in Texas with ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis).
Any donations raised this evening will be used to offset Garza’s medical expenses. Garza is an Oliviera Middle School student.
Commissioners Rose Gowen and Deborah Portillo will join Commissioner Tetreau-Kalifa in the challenge.
Washington Park is located at 721 E. Madison St.
