Some members of the Brownsville Bike Brigade will cycle all the way to Austin and back in an event called "Look Out Austin" beginning Sunday.

The 350-mile ride is an attempt to spread bicycle safety awareness throughout the state.

The Bike Brigade is also hoping to demonstrate the environmental benefits of community with bicycles rather than motor vehicles.

The bikers will be traveling 70 to 80 miles per day.

"As an everyday commuter on a bicycle, we always go through the hazards of getting to close to cars, cars not seeing us, people being on cell phones, also people not being aware of the traffic rules for bicycles and cars and so we kind of want to help spread that awareness, give people more information," said Brownsville Bike Brigade member Robert Ruiz.

The length of the round trip is expected to be around 14 days.
