BPUB crews cleaning power lines to prevent outages
BROWNSVILLE, TEXAS (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — Brownsville Public Utilities Board (BPUB) electrical crews are working to lessening the hazardous effects of the drought impacting the City of Brownsville.
Crews have washed up to 200 miles of power lines to prevent against weather related outages since March.
Southern Brownsville near the area of the port have been washed off due to south east winds carrying salty sand which when combined with humidity can cause dirt to build up on insulators and distribution lines. That build up will cause radio frequency interference, poor radio, TV, or electronic signals and cause power outages or electric arcing.
