Boyfriend arrested after restraining and assaulting woman for five days

A San Benito man has been arrested and charged with a number of charges after being arrested for assaulting his girlfriend.

On Sunday, April 4th at around 10:30 a.m. police were called to the 1800 block of W. Tyler Avenue in reference to a welfare check of an individual.

Police made contact with a woman who stated her boyfriend, Rene Mares, 40, had restrained her from leaving the residence by threatening to use deadly force.

She also reported that Mares had assaulted her over a five day period and that her family didn't know of her whereabouts.

Mares was arrested and charged with obstruction retaliation, unlawful restraint and assault impede breath with a bond totaling $60,000.
