Border Patrol seizes 4 tons of marijuana in one weekend
EDINBURG, TX (KVEO NEWS CENTER 23) — The largest marijuana seizure for the weekend of April 12 -14 was made at the Border Patrol Falfurrias checkpoint on Friday.
A Border Patrol K-9 detected the presence of narcotics within a tractor trailer during an immigration inspection. The vehicle was searched and agents found nearly 3,000 pounds of marijuana within the trailer.
Additionally, another large seizure was made on Friday morning near Garciaville by agents patrolling in the Rio Grande river. Agents spotted two rafts returning to Mexico and searched the American side of the river and found an abandoned truck loaded with more than 1,200 pounds of marijuana.
Additional seizures from Friday through Monday pushed the total amount of marijuana seized to more than 4 tons with an estimated street value of $5.7 million.
