The Border Patrol department reported that shots were fired at border agents over the weekend near the Hidalgo port of entry. It was reported that about eight to twelve rounds were fired at agents patrolling on boats and on the ground. The agents did not return shots as Border Patrol spokesperson Enrique Mendiola Jr. stated, " The agents immediately departed the area based on their condition and the threat that was there. The agents immediately left the area, air support did come in and was able to observe at least one vehicle driving away from the area with approximately five to seven occupants." So far this year, agents have been attacked more than fifty times along the border with three of those incidents involved gun fire.
