Border Patrol not to check immigration status during hurricane evacuations
RIO GRANDE VALLEY, TX (KVEO NEWS CENTER 23) — Now that hurricane season is here, Custom and Border Protection officials are making it clear, immigration status won't be a factor during emergency evacuations.
They say getting people to safety will be the top priority if a hurricane hits the Valley. Border Patrol conducts immigration checkpoints on hurricane evacuations routes.
The CBP announcement means people could move past the checkpoints without being asked their status.
