Border Patrol Horses Named by Elementary Students
LA GRULLA - Two Border Patrol horses received their official names on Thursday, but their names weren't chosen by their riders but instead by elementary school students.
The Border Patrol Department held a contest and asked local elementary students to submit names for the horses. La Grulla elementary school student Alisha Villarreal was one of the winners and she gave one of the horses the name Bandit. She says she entered the contest because of her love for animals, "I like dogs, I like cats, I like every single animal. I don't care what it is, I will, just like it."
Villarreal says she chose the name Bandit because the horse will now be patrolling the river and catching bandits. The other horse, Bob, was named by a student at Leal elementary in Mission.
