Border Patrol agents seize nearly $8 million worth of marijuana
Edinburg, TX — U.S. Border Patrol agents from the Rio Grande Valley Sector confiscated nearly $8 million worth of marijuana in multiple seizures throughout the past week.
Two of the largest seizures occurred in the Rio Grande City area. One on Sunday netted nearly 1,500 pounds of marijuana near La Casita after pilots onboard an Office of Air and Marine helicopter spotted smugglers load a vehicle near the Rio Grande and then drive to a nearby residence. Agents and Starr County High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area officers responded to the residence and seized the marijuana.
Another large seizure near Rio Grande City was made Friday after an OAM helicopter once again spotted a marijuana-laden vehicle traveling away from the river. Agents responded to the area and found the vehicle abandoned with nearly 1,500 pounds of marijuana inside. Agents searched the area, which resulted in the arrest of the driver.
Several additional seizures from Sunday through Thursday pushed the total amount of marijuana to nearly 10,000 pounds.
