U.S. Border Patrol agents in the Rio Grande Valley Sector seized more than $4 million worth of marijuana over the past weekend.

One of the largest marijuana seizures occurred near Weslaco on Sunday when agents saw several bundles of marijuana in two vehicles that were parked at a house. Inside the vehicles agents found nearly 1,200 pounds of marijuana. Four people were also arrested at the scene.

Another large seizure occurred near Garceno on Saturday when agents assigned to the Rio Grande City Station saw a marijuana-laden vehicle traveling away from the Rio Grande at a high rate of speed. Agents deployed a tire deflation device to disable the vehicle, at which time the smugglers abandoned the vehicle and fled—leaving behind more than 1,000 pounds of marijuana.

Numerous smaller seizures pushed the total amount of marijuana confiscated from Friday through Monday to more than 5,000 pounds.
