A Brownsville Custom Border Protection and Field Operations officer who spent 16 years at the department is under arrest for alien smuggling.

Agents arrested 50 year-old Javier Cavazos on Tuesday and he is no longer employed by the agency. Customs and Border Protection say DHS is investigating the charges.
