Company will build new KC-46A refueling planes for US Military.

The U.S. Air Force has awarded boeing the contract to build its new refueling plane.

The new Kc-46A tanker aircraft will be manufactured in by Boeing.

The American aircraft maker beat out a bid from European manufacturer EADS.

The new refueling plane will serve as a flying gas station and will replace the Air Force's aging fleet of tankers put into service back in the 1950s and 60s

The company says the new tanker program will mean $50,000 jobs.

Boeing plans to build up to 180 new air tankers with the first 18 scheduled for delivery in 2017.

The refueling tankers allow jet fighters, supply planes and other aircraft to cover long distances, critical today with fewer overseas bases and with operations under way far from the United States in places like Iraq and Afghanistan.
