MISSION, TX (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — Mission police are trying to identify a body found just north of the river.
Authorities found the body yesterday in a grassy area near Conway Avenue and Military Road. They say the body was partially decomposed.
Sgt. Manny Casas, spokesperson for the Mission Police Department, sais the victim is a Hispanic male in his 20s.
Preliminary autopsy results reveal the man died of dehydration and heat exhaustion.
Investigators recovered an El Salvador ID card from the body, but Casas saud the victim does not look like the person in the ID photo.
Mission police have contacted the El Salvadorian consulate and sent the victim's fingerprints to Border Patrol to confirm the identity of this man.
Casas said it's likely that the man was traveling with a group of immigrants across the border when he was separated from the group and later died from the elements.
