Bishop staffers visit Valley border area
MCALLEN, TX (KVEO NEWSCENTER23) — Catholic officials have a better understanding of the immigration situation after a visit to the Valley Friday
Staff members from the Bishop Conference's central office paid a visit for the day. They went from San Antonio to the Rio Grande before visiting detention facilities. The day ended at Sacred Heart Church in McAllen.
Sacred Heart has been the epicenter for support of undocumented family units. Those staff members got a good look at its operations on Friday.
"Hopefully they'll help strategize how it is the church can respond more on a national level to maybe some of the situations that are affecting the women and children in the United States that are coming from other countries," Bishop Daniel Flores of the Diocese of Brownsville said. "Perhaps also to have contact with Bishops from other countries to see how we can coordinate our responses."
The four staff members who made the trip will be back in Washington DC Friday night.
