School is only a little more than a couple of weeks away for Brownsville. BISD's Youth Connection Project is at work to help

residents prepare for their first day of class.

The school district is working with Valley Baptist Medical Center- Brownsville in holding the Shoes for School drive to help children in

need. Most recent city data shows about 43% of children in Brownsville live below the poverty level.

VBMC's CEO Leslie Bingham says she is excited to be a part of the collaborative effort. "And I think that Senator Lucio, BISD's goal

is to make sure that every kiddo out there gets a pair of new sneakers and it's really important."

You can drop off shoes for boys and girls, sizes 3 to adult, between 8 am and 8 pm through August 21st at the front lobby of Valley

Baptist Medical Center in Brownsville.
