Bicyclist, having difficulty keeping his balance, charged with public intoxication

Harlingen police arrested a cyclist for public intoxication and theft charges after the officer observed him pedaling his bicycle in the middle of the road.

On Tuesday, October 29th at around 4:30 a.m. an officer, patrolling the 1000 block of S. Commerce Street, observed a man riding his bicycle in the middle of the road and having difficulty maintaining his balance.

During questioning the man identified himself as Rene Eduardo Torres, 25, who displayed signs of intoxication of blood-shot eyes, slurred speech, poor balance, and having a strong odor of alcohol.

The officer arrested Torres for public intoxication and during a body search of Torres the officer found several items, apparently stolen, from a local Stripes store which caused Torres to be additional charged with theft.
