Beating Holiday Stress
Spending time with the family isn't always relaxing.
The shopping, the giving, the partying...It's the most wonderful time of the year, and for some families, the most challenging.
So how do you avoid holiday stress?
Psychologist Dr. George Pratt says have reasonable expectations and scan for the positive.
"You can find something everywhere you do like, and actually that's good for your immune system and it's really good for conditioning that part of the brain that's involved in the perception of happiness," he says.
Dr. Pratt also advises to keep things light, no matter who is doing what to whom.
Of course, there are the communication skills too.
When communicating make sure the other person feels heard, give them your full attention and do not interrupt.
Finally, dr. Pratt says exercise, eat appropriately, and enjoy your family.
