Several Brownsville animal control officers were spreading the word Friday afternoon.
The State Health Department has confirmed that a bat found in a BISD warehouse building near Elizabeth and Palm Rd. tested positive for rabies.
A worker found the live bat and reported it to the health department who came and picked the Northern Yellow Tail up.
"Its native to Northern Mexico so we're thinking these strong winds might have blown in." said Robert Dippong of the Brownsville Animal Control Department.
Protocol requires health officials to send the bat off for testing if it's anywhere in the vicinity of humans.
Friday the city employees passed out packets warning businesses and residents living in close proximity, of the do's and don’ts, if they should come across a bat or strangely acting animal.
State health officials who conducted an investigation believe the infected bat did not come in contact with any humans.
