Pharr police are now releasing the identities of the man and woman that were found dead inside a car parked in at a school in Pharr last night.

On Monday at approximately 7:30 p.m., officers responded to Dr. William Long Elementary for a male and female reportedly unconscious inside a red Cadillac CTS parked in the school parking lot.  Both individuals were determined to be dead.

The male is identified as 53-year-old Ricardo Humberto Soto of Edinburg.  The female is identified to be Elvita Balli, 56, of McAllen.

Preliminary investigation indicates that Soto shot and killed Balli while inside Ms. Balli's vehicle.  Soto then shot and killed himself.  Officers did find and recover a hand gun from inside the Cadillac which is believed to be the weapon used.

Mr. Soto's silver Jeep was discovered to be parked next to the Cadillac.

The investigation also reveals that Mr. Soto was Ms. Balli's ex-boyfriend.

Ms. Balli was a teacher at Dr. Long Elementary for many years; she was known to friends, co-workers, and students as Elvita Gonzalez (from marriage).  Ms. Balli had participated in the Open House at Dr. Long Elementary on Monday night from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and was found deceased along with Mr. Soto about 30 minutes after the Open House had ended.

Dr. Long Elementary is currently operating under regular school hours today.

PSJA ISD released the following statement this morning: "This is a very sad time for our school and our community.  Extra counselors will be on site for students and staff who need to speak to someone about the recent events during this time of grief."

Pharr Police Department is asking anyone who might have seen the couple in the parking lot before this event, or anyone with information, to contact Pharr Crime Stoppers at (956) 787-8477.
