Authorities arrest man who phoned in threat against Hidalgo Sheriff Lupe Trevino

Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office Investigators arrested Smith Delgado 39 years of age for threatening the life of Sheriff Lupe Trevino. Mr. Delgado used the 911 system with a disabled cell phone to make the threat of killing the Sheriff.

This is the 3rd individual in the last year to threaten the Sheriff and been identified. Gustavo Lozano has plead guilty and Carlos Medina was found executed in Mexico.

Delgado was also arrested on the following charges; Injury to a child/elderly/disabled w/ intent to commit bodily injury.

Sheriff Trevino states,” As a public official I expect resistance to my enforcement policies and lies and rumors to be spread about me. I accept this as part of my job description. But when an individual blatantly threatens law enforcement, then he has shown no regard for the safety and well being of the entire community and we take this very serious.”

Smith Delgado will be arraigned Via Server tomorrow, Saturday, August 24th.
