Animals Looking for Homes Outside the Rio Grande Valley

Euthanizing these animals is the last resort for the animal shelter. In hopes to find better homes for the furry critters, the shelter is now transporting dogs up north.

But more citizen involvement is needed. Robert Dippong, Supervisor for Brownsville Animal Regulation and Care Center tells us the shelter doesn't have the money to transport these dogs. Thankfully, people have stepped up and offered to take these dogs to their final destination.

This Great Dane is one of the few that will be going to Austin this weekend. A non-profit animal rescue organization will receive her, treat her eye and find her a nice home to go to. And this Cocker Spaniel is also making a trip. He'll go to San Antonio to another non-profit organization that has the same goal, find him a family that will give him the care that he needs.

Locally, adoption numbers are steadily rising but more dogs keep coming in putting the shelter at full capacity. About 80 dogs and 80 cats are at the shelter right now, hoping someone takes them home, if not locally, perhaps somewhere up north.
