TEXAS - Texas based BBQ restaurant, Rudy's, is taking part in helping a non-profit organization that helps military widows.

All 17 restaurants are taking part in CNN's Hero of the Year nominee, Taryn Davis, and her American Widow Project. Davis was only 21 years-old when her husband was killed in action. It prompted her to start the American Widow Project, a support group for young women, who lost their husbands in war. Rudy's BBQ donated $dollar to the support group for every pound of meat sold as well as another $dollar for every "Like" or "Add" on their Facebook page.

Local Rudy's BBQ Manager Debbie Loff stated, "The community needs to know about this project. There's a lot of widows out there that haven't really been noticed and they deserve for people to recognize them and, you known, maybe give them a handshake, maybe even help them out with something if ever needed in the future."

Rudy's BBQ sold over 260 pounds of meat for the cause and Wednesday was last day to vote for Davis on the CNN website.
