It's not just for the holidays, but that time of year is just around the corner...which means it's also time for a Harlingen organization called American Military Support to provide care packages to overseas troops from the Rio Grande Valley.

"The Christmas care packages are really important because of course it's Christmas and some of these gentlemen and women also are away from their families, so these care packages are gonna be a little bit different, a little bit more special. We want to include a blanket, a towel, Christmas cards..." said American Military Support president Emma Alvarado.

And while the donations tend to range anywhere from tissues to footwarmers to lotions and even candy, American Military Support is asking for specifics.

"For our current campaigns, we are requesting certain things that we are in need of because sometimes we have an overwhelming supply of certain items," said Alvarado.

While American Military Support has a lot of supplies in their warehouse, they need more items that directly adhere to their Christmas supply list. And without monetary donations, these supplies can't reach our troops.

"If all we get from the public is, uh, supplies and there's no money then there's no way we can send out the packages," said Alvarado.

But in order to send a care package to a loved one, you must enroll at the organization's website:
