Residents Have Never Had A Sewer System
Residents in one alton neighborhood have never had sewer service. They rely on septic tanks.
but now all of that is about to change...
The city has received over $9 million to help the area. Funds it won't have to pay back.
The project will be from Moorefield Rd. all the way to La Homa. From seven mile line all the way to four and a half mile line. This is big news for the neighborhood. The sewer situation has frustrated the entire community.
Residents aren't the only ones affected. Business owners say that not having proper sewer service has cost them money through out the years."
Property owner Eugene Garcia says, "The rain tends to over flood the pavement and we have to divert the water to areas that are lower. We have definitely had to put some money towards it. We do a lot of work ourselves. Imagine if we had to hire someone else to do that it would definitely raise the costs. It's a constant struggle for us so we're having to deal with that on a daily basis."
City Officials tell us they'll begin construction this October. The project will take about a year to complete but in the long run, it will change the way of life for this little community in Alton.
