Afternoon Fire In Harlingen Threatens Homes

With a red flag warning in effect this afternoon....A grass fire ignited, threatening a neighborhood in Harlingen.
Earlier, People who live there had to evacuate the area.
Now, they can safely return to their homes.
Harlingen firefighters say, the grass fire began around 1:30 this afternoon, off Garrett and Tucker Roads, near Dixieland.
The blaze is now under control.
Today's winds helped to spread the flames quickly through these grassy fields.
About five acres of land, already have burnt to a crisp.
The fire threatened homes in the area, and many residents evacuated, just to be safe.
Olga Garza lives in this neighborhood, and has for the last ten years.
When she saw how close the flames got to her home, that's when she really began to worry.
Garza says, " I was really scared for the house, I didn't want anything to happen to the home."
She says she's very thankful to firefighters for their speedy efforts.
Crews from San Benito and La Feria helped Harlingen Firefighters control the blaze.
The cause is still under investigation.
