911 fee, to increase phone bill, for Cameron County residents
CAMERON COUNTY, TX (KVEO NEWS CENTER 23) — Cameron County has switched from an analog to digital 911 system which will require a small increase for residents on their phone bill.
The increase is only by .25 cents and only applies to landline phones and not to wireless or "computer" telephones to cover the additional cost of the New Generation 911 service.
Over the past few years, the department has been working to transition from an analog to digital system and paying for the new technology will require the assistance from residents of the county.
Officials say the new technology has been mandated by the U.S. government with the new service allowing dispatchers to assist callers, faster.
