$700K grant for Brownsville non-profit

BROWNSVILLE, TX (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — A local non-profit organization received a $700,000 grant from the US Department of Labor.
The Community Development Corporation of Brownsville received the money for its YouthBuild program.
YouthBuild takes men and women between the ages of 17 and 24 who do not have a high school diploma.
It gives them chance to receive their GED as well as a gain work experience in gardening, construction, and safety.
Cynthia Rochas, PR Specialist, "It's to help provide additional services for our students. It's to help them in providing compensation for the time they spent in the job site, and just for general operating costs as well. The students have built over 100 homes for low income families in this community."
The YouthBuild program lasts between six and 12 months for each student. They leave with a training program certification to help attain jobs once they graduate.
