4th Suspect in Brownsville Shooting Arrested

BROWNSVILLE, TEXAS (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — Monday a convenient store on Ruben Torres near Vermillion Elementary School was the scene of a shooting. Three people were already arrested earlier in the week, Gerardo Montejano a fourth suspect was arrested Tuesday night.
"He was supposedly was the individual that shot Ramon Garcia."said Sheriff Omar Lucio
The sheriff says following the shooting on Monday Montejano fled to Matamoros where his father lives. The Sheriff's Department called Montejanos father and told him to turn over his son over he could face charges of harboring a fugitive.
The sheriff's office says that Montejano complied with the sheriff’s department and took his son the Veterans Bridge. From there his son was turned over and Cameron county deputies took him to the jail.
Montejanos is facing a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The sheriff says Montejano shot Garcia in the head.
"He made a statement to the effect that he was the one that shot Ramon Garcia, that he together with Crawford and Clarissa had planned this attack on him basically because Ramon Garcia had been bothering Clarissa for quite some time." said Lucio.
The sheriff says that Garcia and 19 year old Clarissa Maldonado were seeing each other on and off for awhile.
The sheriff says Maldonado did not see Garcia anymore, but Garcia continued to call her, so Jason Crawford and Montejano, Jr. agreed to help Maldonado.
Crawford, Montejano, and Maldonado are all facing charges of aggravated assault with deadly weapon charges.
Another suspect Roberto Ramos was also arrested for tampering with evidence linked to the shooting.
