4th of July events around the Valley

Our nation is celebrating it's 237th birthday and if you're still making plans for Independence Day we have a few suggestions for you.

In the City of Brownsville there will be a fireworks show beginning at 9 p.m., with gates opening at 3 p.m., at the Brownsville Sports Complex located off of Expressway 77/83 and taking the Merryman Rd Exit. Several events are scheduled leading up to the firework show.

The City of Harlingen will be hosting "Freedom Fest", at Fair Park, which will kick-off at 7 p.m. and ending at 11 p.m. with several events, car show, children activities and food vendors will be on site with a closing contest featuring Roger Creager. A fireworks show is scheduled for 9 p.m.

On South Padre Island, the sky will be lighting up with fireworks on the bay side, near Louie's Backyard, around 9 p.m.

One large event occurring in the Valley will  be in the City of McAllen which will be hosting it's 85th Annual Independence Day Celebration. A parade is scheduled 9 a.m. between Houston Avenue and Archer Park. A "Concert in the Sky" extravaganza will start at 9 p.m. on Bicentennial and Tamarack.

Army veteran Col. Frank Plummer will serve as Grand Marshall for the parade, he served in WWII, Korea and Vietnam.

All of the events are free to the public.
