4 Houston firefighters die in a five alarm fire

Officials say four Houston firefighters have died in a five alarm fire has ravaged a Houston hotel.

The mayor's office released a statement saying the four firefighters were killed when the fire broke out at the Southwest Inn.

According to the medical examiners' office, three died at the scene and a fourth died at a hospital.

Another five firefighters were transported to area hospitals. Their names have not been released.

The blaze broke out just after noon Friday at a restaurant at the Southwest Inn.

Flames spread to the motel and were shooting from the roof before firefighters extinguished the blaze about two hours later.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
