Six students displayed their elaborate pieces of work for judges to see.

"She has a lot of details with the hello kitty."

Amy Smith is a food critic and has judged another pastry contest just like this at STC. She's back and looking for specifics.

"Presentation, how it looks overall," said Smith.

Smith says most of the pieces were very well thought out.

"You can tell it's hand painted, it has a lot of detail work...even shadows. you can see a treasure chest and clams and pearls," said Smith.

Chef Emma Crepes started the competition because she wanted the students to be able to practice and showcase their skills.

"Sometimes I have to push them to enter these competitions, but once they do get involved, I can see they actually enjoyed it, whether they won or not," said Crepes.

The students arrived bright and early for the competition. They were allowed to bring in their cake pre-made, however, only had two hours to decorate.

Chef crepes says she plans to make the competition more challenging next year with specific guidelines.
