25th annual Los Fresnos PRCA rodeo kicks off tonight
LOS FRESNOS, TX (KVEO NEWS CENTER 23) — The Los Fresnos PRCA Rodeo kicks off tonight and will continue throughout the weekend.
"We bring in some of the best cowboys throughout the nation, we also have a great carnival going, we also have a stock show going at the same time," said Los Fresnos Rodeo Committee director Mike Todd. "We have all kinds of food vendors, we have also a great act in here."
The livestock show is a favorite event and in addition to featuring several different animals, it's designed to teach kids about good sportsmanship.
"It's a place where 4H and FFA kids can come and display their animal projects and compete for ribbons...belt buckles that have been sponsored by various businesses," said FFA livestock show director Valerie Arizmendi. "There's a lot of people that come to this show."
A concert will also be one of the highlights from the rodeo. Several thousand people are expected to come to the event.
"We average about 4-to 5000 a day," said Todd.
The Los Fresnos PRCA rodeo will take place inside this arena, which holds up to 4500 hundred people. And even though a lot of tickets have already been sold, there's still plenty available.
Not only is the rodeo helping itself out economically, but the crowds it draws in are also helping out the city of Los Fresnos.
"I have been told by many store owners that this is the busiest weekend all year," said Todd.
But more than anything, Todd just hopes his patrons have a good time.
"Oh it's great fun...it's great family fun," said Todd. "Come out and enjoy a real rodeo. A real American tradition."
