2011 Hurricane Season Comes to an End
BROWNSVILLE - The hurricane season ends today and luckily no hurricanes made landfall in the Rio Grande Valley.
It was a mild season compared to three years ago when Hurricane Dolly made landfall in the Valley causing severe flooding and serious damage to buildings and homes. Cameron County Judge Carlos Cascos stated, "This is just another year to recuperate areas in the county that are recovering from Dolly. We are stilling trying to recover funding as a result of Dolly, so not having a serious threat, this year, gives us that opportunity to continue the rebuilding process."
Judge Cascos says, although hurricane season is six months long, county leaders must always be prepared for the worst. They plan year round for the season, finding fast evacuations routes and area shelters people can turn to in the event of hurricane hitting land in the Valley.
