$2 million in heroin seized at Hidalgo port of entry
HIDALGO CITY, TX (KVEO NEWS CENTER 23) — Custom officers at the Hidalgo International port of entry arrested a man in connection with attempting to smuggle heroin.
On Monday, May 20, CBP officers encountered a male Mexican national, 61, at the pedestrian crossiing and who was sent to a secondary examination after noting some irregularities with his luggage.
During the inspection of the luggage bags officers discovered alleged narcotics concealed within three pairs of shoes and the lining of two suitcases.
Officer seized over 5 pounds of alleged heroin hidden within the shoes and over 16 pounds within the suitcases.
CBP officers estimate the total value of the heroin to be over $2 million.
