15 Year old Charged with 9 Counts of Murder

A 15 year old teen has been charged with 9 counts of murder following a rollover accident in Palmview at the intersection of Minnesota and Expressway 83.

Police say it all happened Tuesday night when the 15 year old driver was in Palmview. He refused to pull over for Border patrol. The teen drove and hit a cement barricade.

From there the passengers inside the vehicle including undocumented immigrants were ejected. A total of nine died. The 15 year old juvenile from the Alton area who is a student at La Joya ISD has been charged.

"Nine counts of murder, 17 counts of smuggling causing serious bodily injury or death, and one evading arrest."

Police say at a hearing this morning the teen said he drove because his family was being threatened. Police say through their investigation six other people were arrested. They were found at a stash house at Greenland circle south in Palmview.

Police say they interviewed the suspects who were part of the accident who now face federal human smuggling charged. They told police the 15 year old was driver.

"During the interview they were able to determine where this 15 year old individual lived and were able to apprehend the individual." "Police say they arrested the suspect at this home near 7 mile and Abram."

Roger Cruz lives near where the arrest of the 15 year old took place. "It just shows that anyone is desperate now A days trying to make the easy money, It's sad because kids shouldn't being doing that." Palmview police say for now the teen is been tried as a juvenile. It will be up to the District Attorney's office to see if will be tried as an adult.
