A Department of Public Safety trooper found about 10,000 pounds of marijuana in a tractor trailer after it crashed into a utility police in McAllen on Friday morning.

DPS officials say they got a tip indicating a semi-truck was carrying drugs and after the driver was attempting to make a turn at the intersection of 23rd road and Galveston street when the truck struck a utility pole. The driver, a Mexican national, fled but was soon captured and arrested. This is one of the most significant busts for the department and investigators continue to question the driver.
