Mother of murdered baby describes mixed emotions in wake of charges.

Maine state police are charging a 10-year-old girl with manslaughter in the death of 3-month old Brooklyn Foss-Greenaway.

The infant died in early July while at a babysitter's home.

The 10-year-old is the sitter's daughter.

Brooklyn's mother, Nicole Greenaway, said the charge is bittersweet.

"It's a relief that finally they are going to do some charges," she said. "It is sad that it is a child that did it, but she is ten years old almost eleven. You know better."

Greenaway said there are many emotions going through her and many questions left unanswered.

The action against the young girl, however, is not enough for her.

"At this point I still feel mom is responsible and she needs to be responsible," said Greenaway. "Her response wasn't oh i'm sorry I don't know what happened. It wasn't anything like that. It was why does this stuff always happen to me. It was all about her."

Amanda Huard was the babysitter, hired by Greenaway, to care for Brooklyn.

Even after expressing her uneasiness, Huard allowed her daughter to care for Brooklyn.

"I did ask her not to do that because I felt uncomfortable about a 10-year-old watching my daughter," explained Greenaway.

Calls made to the 10-year-old girl's attorney were not returned.

The child is in the custody of the Department of Health and Human Services.

She is due in court on October 22.

Department of Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland says the girl is the youngest person in Maine to be charged with manslaughter in at least 25 years.
