Tragedy On The Shore
A 4-year-old boy is dead after being hit by a truck on Florida's New Smyrna Beach.
The Florida Highway Patrol said the boy, Aiden Patrick, was at New Smyrna Beach on Sunday when the accident occurred just after 3 p.m.
Police said the boy was found under the truck, in between the front wheel and the passenger door.
Beach Patrol was quickly at the scene, trying to revive the child, but it was too late.
Beachgoers said the child appeared lifeless.
"They were focused on their baby. They were calling the baby's name, telling the baby to hang on … 'Mommy's here. Daddy's here.' Just trying to comfort the baby," said witness Gianna Heath.
The victim was transported to Bert Fish Medical Center and was pronounced dead a short time later.
The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating.
Another child was hit while running on the beach in March.
Ellie-Louise Bland, 4, was walking on Daytona Beach with her uncle.
Police said she took off running from him toward the water and ran into the path of a car.
Investigators said the driver, Barbara Worley, panicked and slammed on the gas instead of the brake.
