Serial Stabbings Arrest
"Person of Interest" picked up in Atlanta after string of attacks in Michigan and Virginia.
Police have arrested a suspect in the serial stabbing case that stretched from Michigan to Virginia.
Police took Elias Abuelazam into custody Wednesday night as he tried to board a Delta flight from Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International to Israel.
Authorities believe the israeli citizen could be responsible for 18 attacks in Michigan, Virginia and Ohio since May.
The attacks left five people dead.
Abuelazam faces charges in Michigan of assault with the intent to murder.
The majority of stabbings occurred in Flint and the majority of victims were African-American.
Residents in the community say they are relieved police have a suspect.
Abuelazam reportedly worked as a clerk at a liquor store in Flint.
The store manager gave investigators surveillance tapes that helped identify the suspect.
"I'm in shock," manager Abdulla Farrah said. "If this is the guy who did this, I hope they hang him."
Two similar stabbings and a hammer attack occurred in Leesburg, Virginia, where police say he has ties and previous arrests.
Authorities in Arlington, Virginia stopped Abuelazam August 5th during a routine traffic stop and reportedly found a knife and a hammer in the vehicle just hours before one of the attacks took place.
