Friday Night Weddings
Couples find that Friday night weddings can be easier and cheaper.
Ben and Holly's recent wedding was traditional in so many ways, but here's where it strayed from tradition: instead of Saturday this was a Friday night wedding.
It’s an idea gaining popularity, especially with the parents of the newlyweds, the ones normally footing the bill.
"I think it really all comes down to: couples are looking for ways to save. They still want an amazing wedding," said Anja Ainikka, editor for theknot.com
It’s an amazing wedding that can easily save thousands of dollars without sacrificing elsewhere.
And everything's up for negotiation, the biggest being the reception.
"Yeah, you could easily save half. It's not the popular Saturday night but it's exactly the same space but for half the price,” said Jack Daly of Van Landingham estate.
Some florists, DJs and wedding photographers are all willing to discount for the extra business on Friday.
"The difference is usually 10 percent, 15 percent. I've heard people offering up to 20 percent," said Chris Marsh, a wedding photographer.
"What I think it really comes down to is that couples are not afraid to think outside the box. They don't want the cookie cutter wedding, anyway,” said Winikka.
So, don't be surprised if you get a Friday night invite to that first dance that's to last a lifetime.
