Four Robberies Five Days
Man's house repeatedly targeted by burglars, including once when police were there.
Punta Gorda, Florida homeowner James Dudley says crooks are burglarizing him out of house and home.
"They had taken side cutters and cut all the cords loose from the house," he said. "They ripped all this stuff out went right out though the nursery right out to the street and threw it into a truck."
In just five days, thieves hit his home four times.
On one of those occasions the burglars were stealing when a Charlotte County sheriff's deputy was talking to Dudley at his home.
"Me and the cop were sitting right there, just about straight across there, in the street talking and they came in here and took what ever they wanted I guess," Dudley said.
Dudley says he thinks the thieves got access to his property from a nursery driveway that's right next to his home.
Dudley and his wife can't live in their home because thieves cut all the copper water pipes to sell for scrap.
Business owner Rodney Roberts' Good Tires for Less shop is just yards away from Dudley home.
After hearing about the burglary, Roberts says he is on edge.
He remembers seeing something odd one day.
"A gentleman jumped out, walked down the street, grabbed a bag, came back, threw it back in the back of the truck and took off," he said.
As for Dudley, he wants the sheriff's office to do more.
"I think there really should be a police officer or something out here at least 24 hours a day or night," Dudley said.
