Troops to Patrol Border in the Valley
The National Guard is sending 250 troops to the Rio Grande Valley in August to help secure the border.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security and defense announced they are planning to send 1,200 troops to patrol the Southwest border. At least 250 will be stationed in the Valley working on surveillance and reconnaissance support and training in efforts to block drug trafficking. The troops will be patrolling the border for a year.
