It was a month ago Brownsville native agent Jaime Zapata was killed in San Luis Potosi during an ambush.
Agent Zapata was laid to rest in Brownsville on February 22nd at the Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens.
Tuesday city commissioners in Brownsville honored the heroism and sacrifice of agent Zapata through a resolution.

In that resolution they will rename Coffeeport road in Brownsville to Jaime Zapata Avenue.

"For 30 years that family has been on Coffeeport road it felt fitting to want to rename after Jaime J. Zapata."

A former Brownsville commissioner Ernesto DeLeon was at the commissioner meeting. His son works with Jaime Zapata's brother in US Customs. DeLeon says Zapata gave the ultimate sacrifice.

"I firmly believe he laid his lived down"
"A street named is his honor for his sacrifice and he is well deserving may be rest in peace."

concerned citizen.. I guess you would only understand if it were your family member that was killed in serving our country. I'm a war veteran of the US Navy and I think this is an honor to the Zapata Family and shows that local city officals and other local organizaion care enough to name a street for his sacrifice as a Brownsville Native to be recognized in memory. We should applaude those resopnsible to making that happen....May your soul rest in peace Jaime Zapata!

I THINK COMMISSIONERS AND LAW OFFICIALS ARE MAKING A BIG DEAL OF SOMEONE WHO IS ALREADY DEAD. INSTEAD OF HONORING PEOPLE WHO ARE ALIVE AND HAVE DONE SOMETHING HUMANITARIAN FOR OTHER PEOPLE. I THINK PEOPLE SHOULD JUST FORGET WHAT HAPPENED IN MEXICO AND START WORRYING ABOUT THE CORRUPTION THAT IS GOING ON HERE, STARTING WITH THE LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES. STARTING WITH LOCAL PD AND ENDING WITH COURTHOUSE OFFICIALS.
